Dear Friends,
I am happy to know about the efforts being made by BiharBrains for the scientific development of the state. However, I have serious reservations about some of the goals set by it.
Let me put my views in reference to each aims:
Aim 1) is to help start, execute and support scientific projects at any stage. This is either an over ambitious aim or is a castle in the air.
This is fact that Biharbrains is not a conglomerate of scientific geniuses such that it has innumerate scientific projects in mind to start with. Neither it has concrete plans for execution.Last but not the least, all of us know that money is big driving force for scientific developments.I am sure BiharBrains does not mint money. What to talk of a few projects, even a single small project in biology is worth 100s of thousands of dollars, with the result being not guaranteed. In this case, I wonder how Biharbrains is going to have the needed resources to do so.
Aim 2) is regarding prviding guidance ot the Govt of Bihar. This is the most objectionable aim. Govts don't need our guidance or support. They have their own machineries, which prefer to move at snails pace. And our organisation is not for five years or 10 years. It is going to be there for many more years and be a constant source of inspiration for generations to come. But, if you come close to one Govt, I am sure the next change of Govt is going to kick out the beneficiaries/supporters of the previous ones. Do we wish to see that fate. So, I think it is a stupid idea to do so.Lets keep our own independent identities and keep ourselves at arms length from any sort of political influence/pressure/obligations.
Aim 3) is good one.But we need to think through before we reach to any conclusion.
Aim 4) seems to be nice dream atleast in current days.Am sure things wil change, but we need to make sure that the right environment is set and we try to change the attitude of the people.Let them become really educated and not just literates with high degress of FRCS, PhD or any other.
My comments are not to hurt anyones sentiments but are the bitter truths which I felt should be told right now, if I am committed to the development of my Motherland.
Thanks,
dk
