NASA’s Upendra N. Singh Elected to Board of Directors for SPIE – The International Society for Optics and Photonics

BELLINGHAM, WA, USA – 23 September 2008 - Upendra N. Singh, Chief Technologist, Systems Engineering Directorate, NASA Langley Research Center, was elected by his peers to serve a three-year term as a Director of SPIE for 2009-2011. In his role as a Director, Singh will represent his peers in Society governance activities and act as an advocate for SPIE and its mission of advancement of optics and optical engineering.

Singh is an established leader in active/passive remote sensing applications for space, especially lidar systems for earth and planetary remote sensing, and sensors and electro-optics systems for atmospheric and chemical/biological sensing. He is an Associate Editor of the SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing, a past member of the SPIE Symposia Committee, and a Fellow of the Society since 2003.

He has chaired over 20 SPIE international conferences in the USA, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions including serving as a General Symposia Chair for six SPIE’s Asia Pacific Remote Sensing Symposia and as a Conference Chair for SPIE Lidar Remote Sensing For Industry And Environmental Monitoring, SPIE Laser Technologies for Environmental Monitoring and Ecological Applications, SPIE Laser Radar Technology & Applications, SPIE Conference on Laser Radar Technology & Applications, and the EOS/SPIE Conference on Laser Radar Technology.

Founded in 1955, SPIE is an international optics and photonics society serving 17,000 Members in 138 countries. Over 40,000 attendees participate in 25-30 SPIE conferences, educational programs, and technical exhibitions annually. SPIE publishes six scholarly journals and the SPIE Digital Library publishes 20,000 proceedings papers each year covering the lasted research in the field.
In support of students, the Society contributes more than $1.5 M annually in scholarships, grants, and financial support. Bihar Science Conference 2009 rescheduled and shifted back on Jan 30-Feb 1,2009

Dear Friends,

Global Scientific council has decided to hold this second Bihar
Science Conference on Jan30 to February 1,2009 (earlier it was announced
on Feb 12-14,2009). This is due to Saraswati Puja and state level
Intermediate examinations in the second week of February 2009,
The rescheduled date is around 2 weeks before the earlier announced date.

MOM of the Global Scientific council: Sept 6,2008

A meeting of the scientific council of BBrains Development Society was held in the society’s office at 4 pm on 06.09.2008. The following members were present

4.Prof Jainendra Kumar,HOD Botany and Biotechnology, College of Commerce Patna
5.Dr. B.K. Sharma, HOD, Electronics, NIT,Patna
6.Prof. KV Sriniwasan, Ex-HOD, Chemistry, Patna Science college
7.Dr. Santosh Kumar, Dept of Physics, B.S College Danapur
8.Prof Santosh Kumar, ex HOD CWRS, NIT,Patna


Dr. Santosh Kumar placed necessary documents for discussion. The agenda of the meeting is

1.Finalization of draft of the scientific council
2.Sending Proposal to British Council
3.Making team of fund management for BSC 2009
4.Meeting with Hon'ble CM and DY CM for their patrons hip and participation in BSC 2009
5.Release of BSC 2009 Brochure to media

The following matters were discussed

1.The date of the BSC 2009 is decided to be on Jan 30, Jan 31, and Feb 1,2009
2.The draft of the scientific council was reviewed. The revised draft of the council is enclosed which is approved unanimously.
3.The core group of the scientific council was reviewed, revised and approved. List enclosed.
4.The fund management committee of the council will comprise of following members
a.Prof A. Yadav,
b.Prof RP Sinha
c.Prof Jainendra Kumar,
d.Prof. KV Sriniwasan,
e.Dr. Santosh Kumar

The fund management committee for the BSC 2009 will be decided in the next meeting.

5.The paper and format for the application form for submitting project to British council and any other such organizations /funding agencies should be provided by BBrains development society in the next meeting.
6.The next meeting of the organizing committee will be held on 21.09.2008 at 11 am.
